Buying New vs. Used
The decision of whether to purchase a new or used vehicle can be a tough one. It comes down to what you want and how much you can afford.
Buying a new vehicle has many advantages, including getting the vehicle exactly as you want it, obtaining a full manufacturer’s warranty, and having little if anything to worry about when it comes to repairs.
However, buying used can be a better choice, especially if your budget is limited. There are many late-model vehicles on the market with some of the manufacturer’s warranty remaining.
Two questions to answer before buying a used car:
- Is it in good mechanical shape?
- Is it priced fairly?
At VacationLand FCU, we urge you to have any used vehicle you’re considering buying checked by a qualified mechanic. The charge is minimal, usually $50 to $100, and includes checking all the vehicle’s major systems: engine, transmission, electrical, heating, cooling and brakes.
The fair market value of the vehicle can be determined easily by consulting any reputable pricing guide on the Internet or here at the credit union.
Whether you decide to buy a new or used vehicle, VacationLand Federal Credit Union urges you to carefully consider all the pros and cons before visiting car lots or dealerships.
