After the busy, hectic holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year), you may experience what’s known as “post-holiday blues” – a term used to describe the melancholy some of us may feel after the revelry has subsided.
Weather-wise, January and February can be cold, fickle months and one might be inclined to hibernate and become less socially active, compared to the whirlwind of family and friends experienced around the winter holidays. What better way to help break out of those doldrums and get out of the house than giving back to your community. After all, you’ve just spent the last couple months constantly being involved and affable. Make an effort to lift your spirits by continuing to be around others and getting out and doing activities you enjoy.
At VacationLand Federal Credit Union, we believe in remaining involved and giving back, because our success is tied to our community’s success. “We do our best to give back to our communities as much as we can,” says VacationLand’s Chief Executive Officer Bryan Myers. Throughout November and December alone, VLFCU members and local residents get into the holiday spirit by volunteering their time and efforts to such events like Coats for Caring, the Annual Toy Drive, and the Salvation Army Red Kettle Fund.
This past November, VLFCU was able to make donations to area non-profits with monies from their candy bar sales and employee jean day funds. For those events, members purchased candy bars throughout the year from credit union tellers, while employees donated $1 for the green light to wear jeans on Fridays and Saturdays. Those combined donations, totaling $5,000, were given to the Salvation Army of Sandusky, the Humane Society of Erie County, Victory Kitchen, Serving Our Seniors, and Safe Harbour Domestic Violence Shelter. None of this would be possible without the year-long support from the communities we serve, and you!
But that’s not all. There’s so much more going on throughout the rest of the year. There’s the Annual Easter Egg Hunt in April, and Stuff The Bus begins in June. And this May, VacationLand continues to make that holiday feeling long-lived by awarding six scholarships to graduating high school seniors. These scholarships were increased from $500, to $1,000 each in 2019. As a member, you could be eligible. But hurry, the March 1st deadline is looming. You can download an application online, or visit one of our conveniently located branches.
Being financially healthy as the new year begins can also help alleviate melancholia. If you weren’t proactive before your holiday shopping began, here’s how we can help you handle those post-holiday stacks of bills. Right now, VacationLand FCU is offering a Personal Loan Special which runs through the end of January. It boasts a rate of 5.99%. You can borrow between $900 and $2,500 with 12 months to repay. No collateral is required. Just sign on the line. You will need to hurry to take advantage of this offer!
Secondly, there’s still time to take advantage of our Credit Card Balance Transfer, good through February. You can move your balances from other high-interest credit cards to our low-interest VacationLand Visa®. You save money while paying off debt faster. There’s a 3.99% introductory APR for 18 months, with no balance transfer fees and no cash advance fees.
