As Youth Month at VacationLand Federal Credit Union draws to a close, we encourage you to continue teaching your children about saving, giving, earning and spending.

Kids aren’t don’t get a lot of financial education in school, so when they become adults they just wing it and take care of financial matters as best they can. We’ve all been there, but it’s never too early – or too late – to learn sound financial habits!

Check out this article from Windgate Wealth Management on Six Ways to Teach Your Kids About Saving Money. Tips include teaching these habits at an early age using tools such as piggy banks, savings jars and savings accounts.

Have kids headed off to college? VLFCU has banking products and services designed just for them. Check out our Campus Connection Club for 18-to-26-year-olds. We also have Teen$ense Share Certificates that are a great way to save for college or other big expenses.

Youth Programs Running Through April 30th

 

  • Teens can enter our drawing to win $15 by correctly completing a checkbook balancing worksheet. Teens ages 13-19 are eligible to participate, and there’ll be one winner at each branch.
  • Bring the kids to one of our convenient branch locations to redeem their Dollar Dog tokens. We’ll double their value, up to 10 tokens per day!
  • Kids ages 5-12 can enter our drawing to win $10 by telling Dollar Dog how they save money.
  • If your kiddos are not Dollar Dog members yet, by all means open an account for them and receive a free gift. Find out more about Dollar Dog Kids Club here.

Along with all this talk about saving money, let’s not forget that giving is just as important. Donating, volunteering and giving back to our community is very important to us at VacationLand Federal Credit Union.

We’re always working on our next contribution or service project, and we encourage all our members – young and old – to help those in need and contribute to the common good. Remember, you don’t have to do much to make a difference. Winston Churchill said it best: “We make a living by what we get; we make a life by what we give.”
